Conrad Maldives Unveils New Villas And New Concept For The Rangali Island
During my recent stay at the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island I was given a tour of the newly redesigned villas on the Rangali Island, the smaller of the two islands that make up the resort. The island features only overwater villas, all of which went through renovations. Thus, the entire island was essentially closed off for the period of renovation except for a restaurant, a bar and an adults-only swimming pool which continued to function. Here is a map of the resort to give you a better idea of which island the new villas are on.

The idea behind the renovation was not just to renovate the villas and update the island hospitality infrastructure, which was still undergoing renovations during my visit, to keep up with resort’s reputation as a luxury property. Simultaneously, the hotel launches a new concept for the island as an adults-only zone, prioritizing privacy and tranquility. Hence, only single guests, honeymooners and couples without children will be booked to stay in the island villas (bar some possible exceptions). For the reasons of peace and tranquility there will be no beach chaise lounge chairs or beach umbrellas on the tiny sliver of the beachline that the island has. So, you’ll be essentially confined to your overwater villa despite access to the beach.
No beach chaise lounge chairs or beach umbrellas for peace and tranquility on the adults-only Rangali Island!
The first villa I visited was Water Villa #330. Please note, the villas were in the last stages of cleaning after renovation which is my pictures reflect.
The entrance to the villa.
Right at the entrance, there is a ‘kitchen area,’ which includes a refrigerator, a wine bar (a new addition to the villas), a coffee&tea station, and some storage shelves.

I really like the new design which features elaborate woodwork, including a number of striking carved pieces. Though they reflect Maldivian motives, as I was told, they were imported from Thailand.

Bed, seating area and an overwater office space.
Office is great for reef shark- and fish-watching and blogging.
Each villa is equipped with a brand new LG TV with a sound bar.
Bathroom really shines with upscale touches, featuring double sinks, a shower and a bathtub.
There is a separate toilet.
Outside deck with a swimming pool.
One of the great features of overwater villas is that you can take the stairs right into the clear, bright-blue waters of the Indian Ocean.
Just a few steps down and you are in the Indian Ocean!
Next, I visited the Superior Water Villa #331. It essentially uses the same floor plan as the Water Villa#330, though, being a little bigger in size, feels more spacious . Interior design is somewhat different as it features rattan wickerwork furniture as well as woven mats and other rattan handicrafts, which are traditionally used in Southeast Asia.

No, these is no one hiding under the sheets! As I mentioned earlier, the villas were in the last stages of cleaning up after remodeling.
Seating area.
‘Superiority’ of the villa really comes through in the bathroom! It very spacious and full of light.
Outside deck seems to be bigger than that of the Water Villa. It also feels more private, perhaps, due to the positioning of the villa.
Going into the ocean…
The renovated overwater villas at the Conrad Maldives are very impressive. The idea of turning the smaller island, where these villas are located, into an adult-only area is a great idea. I’m sure it will make your stay on the island very relaxing, memorable and enjoyable.
